VCA Animal Hospitals Registered Veterinary Technician for Internal Medicine (IM RVT) in Sacramento, California
VCA Sacramento Veterinary Referral Center is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) specializing in Internal Medicine to join our dynamic team. The IM RVT will play a critical role in providing exceptional patient care, supporting our internal medicine veterinarians, and ensuring the smooth operation of our internal medicine department.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Care:
Assist in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of internal medicine cases.
Perform and assist with advanced diagnostic procedures such as endoscopy, ultrasound, and other imaging modalities.
Monitor and care for patients undergoing internal medicine treatments, including chemotherapy and other specialized therapies.
Provide post-procedural care and monitor patient recovery.
Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by the veterinarian.
Technical Skills:
Collect and prepare blood, urine, and other samples for laboratory analysis.
Conduct routine laboratory tests and diagnostic imaging.
Maintain and operate medical equipment used in the internal medicine department.
Assist with anesthetic procedures and monitoring during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
Client Communication:
Educate and communicate with clients about their pets' conditions, treatment plans, and follow-up care.
Provide empathetic support and guidance to pet owners during stressful times.
Update clients on their pets' progress and address any concerns or questions they may have.
Administrative Duties:
Maintain accurate and detailed medical records for all patients.
Coordinate and schedule appointments, procedures, and follow-up visits.
Ensure proper inventory management and ordering of supplies and medications.
Team Collaboration:
Work closely with veterinarians, fellow technicians, and support staff to ensure optimal patient care.
Participate in continuing education and training to stay current with advancements in veterinary internal medicine.
Assist in training and mentoring new staff members and veterinary technician students.
Qualifications:
Active RVT license in the state of California.
Minimum of 2 years of experience as a veterinary technician, preferably with a focus on internal medicine.
Strong technical skills, including proficiency in venipuncture, catheter placement, anesthesia monitoring, and diagnostic imaging.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Compassionate and empathetic attitude towards patients and their owners.

VCA Animal Hospitals offers a competitive compensation and benefits package including Medical/Dental/Vision insurance, 401(k) retirement plan, pet care discounts, paid vacation, holidays and sick days, health and well-being programs that provide resources and training. Compensation is negotiable based on education, experience, and other relevant credentials. The pay range for this position is $25 to $31/ hour.
