VCA Animal Hospitals Registered Veterinary Technician for Internal Medicine (IM RVT) in Sacramento, California

VCA Sacramento Veterinary Referral Center is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) specializing in Internal Medicine to join our dynamic team. The IM RVT will play a critical role in providing exceptional patient care, supporting our internal medicine veterinarians, and ensuring the smooth operation of our internal medicine department.

Key Responsibilities:

Patient Care:

  • Assist in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of internal medicine cases.

  • Perform and assist with advanced diagnostic procedures such as endoscopy, ultrasound, and other imaging modalities.

  • Monitor and care for patients undergoing internal medicine treatments, including chemotherapy and other specialized therapies.

  • Provide post-procedural care and monitor patient recovery.

  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by the veterinarian.

Technical Skills:

  • Collect and prepare blood, urine, and other samples for laboratory analysis.

  • Conduct routine laboratory tests and diagnostic imaging.

  • Maintain and operate medical equipment used in the internal medicine department.

  • Assist with anesthetic procedures and monitoring during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.

Client Communication:

  • Educate and communicate with clients about their pets' conditions, treatment plans, and follow-up care.

  • Provide empathetic support and guidance to pet owners during stressful times.

  • Update clients on their pets' progress and address any concerns or questions they may have.

Administrative Duties:

  • Maintain accurate and detailed medical records for all patients.

  • Coordinate and schedule appointments, procedures, and follow-up visits.

  • Ensure proper inventory management and ordering of supplies and medications.

Team Collaboration:

  • Work closely with veterinarians, fellow technicians, and support staff to ensure optimal patient care.

  • Participate in continuing education and training to stay current with advancements in veterinary internal medicine.

  • Assist in training and mentoring new staff members and veterinary technician students.

Qualifications:

  • Active RVT license in the state of California.

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a veterinary technician, preferably with a focus on internal medicine.

  • Strong technical skills, including proficiency in venipuncture, catheter placement, anesthesia monitoring, and diagnostic imaging.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

  • Compassionate and empathetic attitude towards patients and their owners.

  • Commitment to maintaining the highest standards of veterinary care.

VCA Animal Hospitals offers a competitive compensation and benefits package including Medical/Dental/Vision insurance, 401(k) retirement plan, pet care discounts, paid vacation, holidays and sick days, health and well-being programs that provide resources and training. Compensation is negotiable based on education, experience, and other relevant credentials. The pay range for this position is $25 to $31/ hour.
