Job Requirements

Job Title: Veterinary Laboratory Assistant (VLA) Night Shift

Salary: £24,000 - £26,000

Location: Leamington Spa

Job Type: Night shifts, Permanent, Full Time

Hours: Shifts between the hours of 10pm – 10am, 40 hours per week. Monday – Friday plus Saturday rota

Antech Diagnostics are looking for a Veterinary Lab Assistant to join our brand-new, state-of-the-art veterinary laboratory based in the Leamington Spa area. This is an exciting opportunity to join a fast-growing business who have been around for over 30 years as we come together, making a better world for pets.

This opportunity would be well suited to you if you have previous experience as a Veterinary Lab Assistant (VLA), a Medical Lab Assistant (MLA) or experience working within specimen reception. This is a full time position with varying night shifts between the hours of 10pm - 10am across Monday - Friday with a Saturday rota.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Accurately process standard requisitions per approved procedures.

  • Remove specimens from transport bags, enter patient, client and specimen data, label specimens and aliquot as needed.

  • Sort specimens for distribution throughout the lab.

  • Ensure Turnaround Times (TATs) are met.

  • Comply with appropriate specimen storage requirements.

  • Maintain inventory of specimens after testing has been completed and ensure all specimens are accounted for.

  • Retrieve and prepare add-ons and rechecks.

  • Follow applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and perform all work as per quality control, QA guidelines.

  • Participate in assigned training programs; maintain ongoing competency.

  • Raise all technical and test concerns in a timely way to senior staff.

  • Assist with maintaining supply inventory, record-keeping, data entry, shipping and transferring incoming calls.

  • Ensure workstations are kept clean, stocked and comply with laboratory H&S procedures.

Work Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent) in a Science related field

  • A minimum of 6 months relevant laboratory experience ideally within a veterinary or clinical setting

  • Attention to detail and ability to work independently

  • Organised with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, high throughput environment

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Good customer service and reasoning skills

  • Accurate data entry skills

  • Ability to adapt and be flexible to meet the demands of the business
