VCA Animal Hospitals Veterinary Assistant in Fort Collins, Colorado

VCA Fort Collins Animal Hospital is seeking a full-time Experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our practice currently located in Fort Collins, Colorado, and work in both our General Practice and Urgent Care!

Schedule

Full-time position, 4/10’s, weekend availability required (every Saturday, some Sunday). General Practice from 8am-6pm and Urgent Care is 10am-8pm, 7 days a week. Some Holiday coverage is required.

Compensation

The pay range for this position is $18 - $21 / hour. Compensation is negotiable based on education, experience, and other relevant credentials.

What You’ll Do

  • Follow digital treatment plans prescribed by DVM

  • Obtain quality lab samples via venipuncture, cystocentesis, fecal collection, etc.

  • Perform in-hospital laboratory diagnostics including fecals, urinalysis, cytology, etc.

  • Process lab samples utilizing in-hospital laboratory equipment

  • Use low-stress patient-handling techniques

  • Perform diagnostic radiographs (hands-free as allowed)

  • Administer injections, medications, and veterinary care as directed by a veterinarian

  • Calculate and administer sedation for minor procedures

  • Administer and monitor general anesthesia, if required

  • Maintain accurate, complete digital medical records

  • Fill prescriptions

  • Maintain a clean work environment including following any infectious disease protocols, handling medical/biomedical, and infectious waste appropriately

Qualifications

  • Required: minimum 3 years of veterinary experience in a general practice or emergency setting

  • Preferred: a current veterinary technician license in the state of Colorado or be eligible to transfer/obtain a license in Colorado.

  • Ability to operate with a sense of urgency and high pace

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills

  • Willingness to jump in as needed

  • Able to work in a collaborative, team-oriented environment

  • Comfortable asking for help and clarification when needed

  • Possess high attention to detail
